Reading the Other Side of the Story: Ominous Voice and the Sociocultural and Political Implications of Luis Spota\u27s Murieron a mitad del río

It is always contoversial to proclaim a literary work, at face value, as a sociocultural study of a particular society. It is even more controversial when one deals with a hybrid work, combining factors from two completely distinct societies. Yet, there are some literary works that seem to call for exactly this type of analysis, presenting a range of ideas which in retrospect reveal origins of significant sociocultural trends. Such is the case of Luis Spota\u27s Murieron a mitad del río (1948). This novel presents a panorama of ancestral problems in the life of thousands of immigrants and inhabitants of the Mexican-U.S. border region trying to achieve a better life for them and their children, yet forced to live in social limbo. These individuals reside neither entirely in Mexico nor in the United States, but in a place where the existence of tensions started with the competition for jobs amongst the already in and the newly arrived (regardless of the legal status) augmenting the differences created by a new environment. Although only implicitly present in the novel, some of these problems are approached from a legal point of view creating, contrary to their intended purpose, a better means for the selection of immigrant manual labor. Although not in the novel, a case in point would be the new walls of ignominy along the Tijuana-San Diego crossing, where undocumented migration has shifted east toward Calexico and other parts of the Arizona desert. Since conditions to cross the border there illegally are more rigorous, only the young and strong dare to do it. This essay examines the manner Spota uses to expose his particularly urban point of view and a set of social problems, from a cultural theory point of analysis. It demonstates that Murieron a mitad del río presents a microcosm of the issue and in a way, predicts some of the main dilemmas that both countries will encounter through the years. Thus, Spota becomes a visionary, dealing in his own idiosyncratic manner with a still compelling topic

Genomic characterisation of Arachis porphyrocalyx (Valls & C.E. Simpson, 2005) (Leguminosae): Multiple origin of Arachis species with x = 9

The genus Arachis Linnaeus, 1753 comprises four species with x = 9, three belong to the section Arachis: Arachis praecox (Krapov. W.C. Greg. & Valls, 1994), Arachis palustris (Krapov. W.C. Greg. & Valls, 1994) and Arachis decora (Krapov. W.C. Greg. & Valls, 1994) and only one belongs to the section Erectoides: Arachis porphyrocalyx (Valls & C.E. Simpson, 2005). Recently, the x = 9 species of section Arachis have been assigned to G genome, the latest described so far. The genomic relationship of A. porphyrocalyx with these species is controversial. In the present work, we carried out a karyotypic characterisation of A. porphyrocalyx to evaluate its genomic structure and analyse the origin of all x = 9 Arachis species. Arachis porphyrocalyx showed a karyotype formula of 14m+4st, one pair of A chromosomes, satellited chromosomes type 8, one pair of 45S rDNA sites in the SAT chromosomes, one pair of 5S rDNA sites and pericentromeric C-DAPI+ bands in all chromosomes. Karyotype structure indicates that A. porphyrocalyx does not share the same genome type with the other three x = 9 species and neither with the remaining Erectoides species. Taking into account the geographic distribution, morphological and cytogenetic features, the origin of species with x = 9 of the genus Arachis cannot be unique; instead, they originated at least twice in the evolutionary history of the genus.Fil: Silvestri, María Celeste. Automatización del Despliegue de Recursos en Bases de Datos

En una arquitectura SOA, los servicios presentan dependencias con otros servicios y recursos ya desplegados, necesitando comunicarse con la base de datos para que les provea de información y donde almacenen los datos obtenidos. Una arquitectura telemática que gestione la configuración y el despliegue de tales servicios se hace esencial y dentro de esta, un sistema que gestione los recursos de bases de datos. Las tareas relacionadas con base de datos suponen una actividad ardua y compleja que es realizada de forma manual por administradores especializados. Rompiendo con esta idea y siguiendo la línea de investigación actual, el sistema desarrollado pretende gestionar automáticamente los recursos en el proceso de despliegue dando un soporte integral al DBA, facilitando considerablemente su trabajo y colocándole a un nivel superior de validación y optimización. El sistema se puede separar en dos: una herramienta de generación de unidades de despliegue y otra para realizar el despliegue en base de datos

Una revisión empírica sobre la auto-eficacia en la composición escrita del alumnado con y sin dificultades de aprendizaje

El estudio de la composición escrita desde perspectivas cognitivistas ha conceptualizado ésta como una actividad compleja, en la que subyacen procesos de diferente naturaleza, no sólo cognitivos y metacognitivos, sino también de naturaleza afectiva. En los últimos años, como resultado de reformulaciones de modelos teóricos clave en el estudio de la composición escrita (Hayes, 1996), se ha enfatizado el rol clave que diferentes variables motivacionales, tales como la auto-eficacia, juegan en el desarrollo de la competencia escrita del alumnado. En coherencia con esta actual línea de investigación se presenta una revisión empírica internacional sobre el estudio de la auto-eficacia en la composición escrita, centrado en torno a tres ejes de análisis: su rol en la competencia o rendimiento en la composición escrita, sus cambios evolutivos, y su estudio en alumnos con dificultades de aprendizaje. Se analiza y discute sobre el actual estado de la cuestión en el estudio de la auto-eficacia en la escritura, y sobre los límites y lagunas presentes en este campo de estudio, los cuales fundamentan y justifican las futuras líneas de investigación a seguir.From cognitive perspectives, writing is considered as a complex activity, which includes processes of different nature, not only cognitive and metacognitive but affective writing processes. Last years, as result of reformulating Hayes’ theoretical model of written composition (Hayes, 1996), it has emphasized the key role of motivational variables of writing, such as, self-efficacy, in development of students’ writing competence. According to this research line, this paper presents an empirical review about writing self-efficacy, focused on three analyses: its role on written composition competence or achievement, its changes from a developmental perspective, and the study of learning disabled students’ writing selfefficacy. We analyze the state of art of writing self efficacy, and the gaps of writing self-efficacy research field that justifies future researches in this field.peerReviewe
